CRASH of Wellington W 5665 on 02.57 hours

Wellington W 5665 took off from Swinderby, Lincolnshire, at 22.02 hours for the bombardment of Bremen, Germany. The aircraft has been shot down while returning of this raid by a German night-fighter above the "Waddenzee" and crashed at 02.57 hours near the island of Ameland.

Killed:
Bankowski P.R., Domański J., Paleniczek W. and Sieczka W.

Bankowski P.R. washed ashore on 19.6.1941 and he was buried in the Roman Catholic Cemetery of Nes. Row 1 Grave 7. Later on he was exhumed and transferred for unknown reasons to the British War Cemetery "Jonkerbos" at Nijmegen. Grave 7.J.2.

Domański J. washed ashore on 2.7.1941 and he has been buried in the Roman Catholic Cemetery of Nes. Later on he was exhumed and transferred to the British War Cemetery "Jonkerbos" at Nijmegen. Grave 7.J.4.

Paleniczek W. is still missed.

According to records the body of Sieckza W. has been recovered from the sea by Germans and he has been buried in the Roman Catholic Cemetery of Nes. Row 1 Grave 8.
Later on he was exhumed and transferred to the British War Cemetery "Jonkerbos" at Nijmegen but his grave is not to be found there but in view of the foregoing it looks as if the "Unknown Airman" buried in grave 7.J.3. is likely to be Sieckza W.

Prisoners of War:
Cebrzyński W. and Winek S. both survived. They were arrested by the Dutch police near the village of Westdongeradeel.

Winek S. has been POW in Luft I at Barth-Vogelsang in Germany and survived.

Cebrzyński Wiktor has been POW in Stalag Luft III at Żagań, Poland.
He survived but he has been killed 21.7.1945 by an accident whilst he was stationed on the Polish Airbase at Dunholm Lodge, Great Britain.
He has been buried in the British War Cemetery at Brookwood, Surrey, Grave 27.E.I.
