Dakota KG379 of 435 Squadron RCAF, piloted by S/L Robert G. Joyce, carried
out a passengers run in charge of BAFO (British Air Force of Occupation) from the
airbase Bückeburg in Northern Germany to Croydon airport.
Because forecast was bad it landed on Manston.
After checking it took off at 10.55 hours but during the approach of Croydon Airport
it crashed against a hill 3 km SW of Warlingham.
Eight persons were killed, 14 seriously injured and two uninjured.
Amongst the victims were S/L Joyce. He was buried in Brookwood.
Two Polish officers płk. Brzezina Stanisław and
ppułk. Grodzicki Stanisław died as well.
The identity and the fate of the other passengers is not known.
