Crash of Lancaster DV 282
In the night of 28 th. May 1944, at 02.46 hours, Lancaster DV 282 was hit by a German nightfighter and crashed burning at the hamlet of Bern near Heusden, the Netherlands.
A part of the bombs exploded after the crash.
Entire crew was killed.
In these night six aircrafts of 300 Squadron get lost. There was used a new tactics. The crew had to go down above the target to 10.000 feet. The target was the town of Aachen in Germany. The crew of lieutenant W. Osika didn't return. This time F/S J. Koziołek was the 1st. pilot.
Navigator F/O Tapp was an American who volonteered the Polish Airforce. His parents were Polish emigrants and he spoke fluent Polish. It was his first flight above hostile soil.
